Monday, a long day. I've been up since 9am. That's not early I know, but that's only 4 hours of sleep as I went to bed at 5am. Why? I have been working on my research proposal. I have been trying hard to stay focused but my brain efficiency is extremely low. I couldn't believe the fact that I had only written 4 paragraphs.

The three-hour lecture for waste water treatment engineering is what makes Mondays so unbearable. The lecturer is alright, it's the content that makes it so awful and miserable for me.

Busy busy busy. I have been really sleep-deprived recently. Three more weeks of this kind of life. Anyway, my dear got me a big box of Ferrero Rocher to cheer me up. Something small, but it's the thought that counts!

Yes, it's my birthday today.

No big celebration as everyone is really busy rushing for deadlines. I didn't even have the time to think about my birthday, not to mention to plan for a celebration. But definitely, we are going for PARTAYYY after all the submissions! Just wait for us, 3rd December!

It's a very special birthday to me. The birthday wishes on facebook really made my day and reminded me of how loved I am. Thank God for the family and my loved ones and the lovely friends in my life. I feel really blessed. Thanks to facebook for making me feel so loved at least once a year!

Despite all the stress and work on my birthday, this is the most special birthday I've ever had in my whole life, emotionally, and I know why. The reason is simple. Love, it is, from someone, the only one, the really special one to me.

This post is to remind myself how loved I am.

Reading week... not

For the first time in my uni life, I went to the uni to get some work done during reading week.

For the first time in my uni life, I didn't step foot into the city even once during reading week. Not for food, no shopping.

For the first time in my uni life, I went to the library during reading week.

For the first time in my uni life, I stayed to work at the computer cluster until 5.30pm.

In short, fourth year sucks.

Insomnia

I went to bed at about 2am last night after getting the materials ready for EBL, but I couldn't fall asleep. I know that I was still wide awake at about 3am, and I woke up a few times during the night. When I woke up, I felt like I hadn't slept at all.

Life has been haywire. So much to do, so little time. 5 deadlines, so much to read, so many tutorial problems to do, and there is this programming thing that I have to learn before I can write programs to solve Mathematical problems. Fourth year --> tough.

I know I had been complaining about the weather in Manchester lately. It's now abnormal. Abnormal to Manchester means sunny or no rain. It feels a bit weird to be back in Manchester this year. Some of my closest friends have already graduated and left Manchester. It's such a shame that we can't graduate together.

I don't think I am ready to start working yet.

Just that I slept really late last night, thanks to the stupid coursework, at about 2am. But I managed to wake up at 8am, and attended an one-hour lecture at 9am, and I didn't yawn even once!

It's still raining! When is it going to stop raining? Go away!

The rain in Manchester is getting so IRRITATING now that even wearing a hoodie or using an umbrella will not help in preventing you from getting wet. The rain hasn't been heavy actually, but the water droplets are so small and light that they literally fly around in no specific direction. LIKE CRAZY! Just imagine someone keeps spraying water onto your face!!! So, good luck if your makeup isn't waterproof, unless you have THIS umbrella -

You might look ridiculous but at least your head and shoulders will stay dry! Not bad huh?

For body, you can always wear a raincoat. It will protect you from the heaviest rain ever. For your shoes, maybe you can consider this -

Rainy day in Manchester

It's been raining continuously in Manchester for three days, and it is getting more and more annoying. I love it when it rains, but only when I'm indoor or when I am having something hot to drink. Imagine slowly sipping your coffee and savouring your favourite cheesecake, sitting by the window in a warm coffee shop watching people passing by, some with umbrellas and some without, or maybe... drinking the steaming hot soup whilst sitting by the slightly open window.....

Oh well.. forget it! It's been raining non-stop, and to make it worse, the wind has been strong too. Went for movie last night and came back with the lower halves of my jeans all wet, even though I had an umbrella. It's because I have to walk so much here that makes me dislike the rain sometimes. Nothing is worse than having to carry bags of groceries with one hand as the other hand has hold the umbrella and walk for 20 minutes.

According to the weather forecast, it will rain until Wednesday.....

Went back to Riam with another two ex-classmates on a Saturday to reminisce .

But, where is the pond ?!!!! Heard from some people that the school intended to build a new block here.... that explains why.

Going to London in 3 hours time for a day trip. Will be meeting up with my sister and cousin there. I love London, as a TOURIST. I don't know what I love so much about it, honestly. Food? Shopping? Galleries? Museums? Well, I think I just enjoy the feeling of being in London, walking around and exploring new places. Something I really love doing is to walk along the South Bank.

I'm so glad that it's only a two-hour train ride from Manchester to London, and train tickets aren't THAT expensive.

Mind you, I still love Manchester, as a student. Life is so convenient here, and it has almost EVERYTHING. But if I get to choose between London and Manchester to work in the future, I think I will choose London any time. If... I wish... not so possible...

Tomorrow I will be travelling up north, then west and up north again, back to the place where I call my 'current second home'. My feeling isn't as heavy as it used to be the past 2 years, as I know very clearly in my mind that after this year, I will be coming back home with pride, and I shall treasure my very last year of being a student in my life (unless I decide to get a Permanent Head Damage).

Oh my God!!

What happened??!!

I didn't know what made me click on the app on facebook 'Messages from God'. I had never really bothered about it. I was just feeling really down and depressed over some thoughts.. unnecessary thoughts.

So... I got this:
You've been worrying too much about the future lately. So tonight, go ahead, put your faith in God, and just have a peaceful evening and a restful sleep.

I was so shocked!! How could this happen? That's exactly what has been thinking about! The FUTURE!! And God is speaking to me! This.. is... amazing... even though I have always known that God is amazing, but I was still very shocked!

I think I have insomnia. After days of sleeping for only 4 hours or even less a day, I think I now have insomnia. It's 5 am, and I'm not even tired. Now I'm no longer stressed about my design project, and I have nothing much to worry about, but why can't I fall asleep?

Oh well. Like I said, design project is seriously a health hazard. Ironically, I did the health and safety hazards part for my part 3 report. For one whole week, I had been sleeping for at most 4 hours a day, and they weren't good quality sleeps. Sometimes I dreamt about having to hand in my report literally in the next hour and I'd only done 50% of it, and I would wake up immediately and start working. And of course, there were all-nighters as well. I had been sleeping in the morning at 11, and waking up in the afternoon.

So, that's part of it. Secondly, everyday I sat in front of my laptop for at least 10 hours. That's nearly half a day! My back hurt so much, and there was once when I couldn't even bend my fingers after having been typing for so long. Yes, literally couldn't bend my fingers. Of course, I believe my eye sight has deteriorated for having been looking at the screen for so long for so many days.

Thirdly, I had lost my appetite. I had at most 2 meals a day. That's partly because I went to sleep in the morning, and missed my breakfast. I was too knackered every time, and so I decided to sleep right away, and I would rather have more rest than to spend time to have my breakfast. Every second I had was so precious. On the day of submission, I literally didn't eat anything. All I had was 1 bottle of red bull energy shot which kept me awake and alert for the entire day. I still don't have the appetite till now.


Oh Red Bull, my lifesaver. It really helps!

Anyway, I'm not going to continue writing about it anymore. It's just going to be a post about my complaints anyway. The conclusion is, I was very stressed!

What's more important now is that IT IS EASTER BREAK!!!!!!!! So be happy!

最近的生活，就是睡醒后就坐在电脑前。不是在浪费时间，而是拼命在赶 report 。从早上坐到晚上，一坐就坐上好几个小时，昨天发现背后疼痛不已，现在贴了好几片日本膏药布。这么惨啊！

现在压力非常大，大到我想哭了。脑汁已经绞尽了，可是还得继续做。唉。。。。。怎么可以这样啊？救命！！

Go-Karting

Went go-karting at Atherton last Monday. A friend studying Economics invited us and I only realised that I was the only girl at the train station. Much to my relief, some of the guys there had never played go-karting before too, and some didn't know how to drive. According to the address, Atherton is in Manchester, probably Bolton, but we had to go by train, changing at Salford. Some guys in our group missed the first train to Salford by merely 5 seconds!! At the station at Salford, there were only two platforms, but many different trains. There was no sign or whatsoever that showed which train we should take to Atherton, which is kind of stupid...

So, we kept pestering a girl nearby asking her 'is this the one?' everytime a train arrived. We must have looked pretty dumb to her, as though we had never taken the train before. The guys who missed us came to Salford by cab and arrived just before we left.

It was an awesome experience. We had 8 people and they had to divide us into 2 groups. Of course, the guys raced against each other, and I tried my very best to drive as fast as I could, but I was still the slowest! Much slower than anyone else!!! I was just too cautious every time I drive, and I don't drive fast. I was shown the blue flag so many times, which meant I had to let the guys overtake me. Embarrassing huh? But after all, it was amazing!!! I'm seriously going to do go-karting again. The lady there told us the best and largest circuit in the UK was the one in Warrington, which is not far away from Manchester. Yes, another plan for the Easter break!! I can't wait!

每次不开心时，我向上帝祷告，不知为什么，上帝总会以‘耐心等待要欢呼’这句话来告诉我应该怎么做。的确，我试过把事情交托给上帝，耐心等待，而上帝每一次都把最好的赐给我。

最近世界上发生了很多天灾人祸。有革命，有地震，有海啸等等。每次看到这样的新闻时，我都会想起一节经文：马太福音24：7

民要攻打民，国要攻打国。多处必有饥荒，地震。

是不是世界末日将近？所发生的事是不是应验了圣经里记载的？若真的是末日将要到来，我是否已经做好准备？我身边的人是否也是都已经都准备好了呢？我相信我已经准备好了。

Daylight Saving

It's 7.40 pm and it's still bright outside. YES!!! Somehow I prefer it to be bright outside before 8 pm. When it's dark, I just don't feel like going out anymore, not even for dinner sometimes. I now feel like I have more time to do my things. *shrug* At least that's how I feel.

I was working till quite late last night. I thought I went to bed at 2 am, but when I looked at the time on my laptop, it showed 3 am!!! Damn it. The first days of daylight saving have always been very interesting, and I love it.

Time flies... like this

So, it's the ninth week of second semester. That means I have been doing the design project for 4 months, and doing it in detail for 2 whole months! It's indeed a very painstaking process of trying to get things done on time. Meeting deadlines, researching, calling for meeting, working from morning till midnight, and reading more than 200 journals (and still finding more) are seriously no fun at all. Two more weeks, and the report writing part will be done! If you can't imagine how exhausting the design project is, just have a look at my coursemates, and me too! You'll see a bunch of ZOMBIES!!!

Yes, third year students are all zombies now. I'm not sure about other courses, but it's pretty safe to say that this applies to all engineering courses. But we will revive very soon!!!!! Meet us... the zombies of engineering courses....

海阔天空？

有人说， “忍一时，风平浪静，退一步，海阔天空”。真的是这样吗？风平浪静还比较可能，但，真的会海阔天空吗？希望是如此吧！

这个世界就是这么不完美。有很多不明白的东西，也有很多在自己角度看来很莫名其妙的事情。不明白就要搞清楚，但是，很多事不是在自己的掌控之下，能怎样呢？

人，就是一种奇怪的动物。每个人都想要别人了解自己，但同时也不想让别人了解自己，很矛盾。想要别人明白自己的想法，但又把事情都隐藏在心里，心想别人应该会明白的。

一定会有人看你不顺眼，一定有人批评你，一定有人与你不和。无论你用了无数的方法去改变，去讨好人，还是会有这样的人。

你认为自己很正直，根本没做错什么，但是，就是会有些莫名其妙的事情发生。我说莫名其妙，就是你不知道自己做错了什么，或者其实根本什么都没做，就是有人排挤你，不喜欢你。

算了吧。就算觉得自己没做错什么，可是如果退一步能海阔天空的话，又有何妨呢？

This is my plan for my Easter break

In the midst of rushing to finish my report by 11.59 pm tomorrow, I have come up with a few plans for my Easter break.

1. Bake cakes. I love love love love love blueberry cheesecakes, and I think I should make good use of the time when I'm still in UK where the blueberries are cheap!

2. Read at least two books. I'm so in love with Waterstones now. I never knew they provide sofas for their customers to read! But I will buy the books if I really love them, as I can never finish reading a book that quickly, and I don't want to go there everyday.

Even the little mouse is reading. How can I not read then??

3. Go to at least one new place in the UK. Most probably York! Or Edinburgh. Despite having been in the UK for more than 2 years now, I have only been to London, Liverpool, Birmingham and Peak District :(

4. Walk around Manchester. There are so many places in Manchester that I've not been to. Probably I'll go to Salford too.

5. Eat! There are so many good restaurants in Manchester! First in the list, Chaophraya!

Nocturnal

It's 2.13 am, and I am still awake. That's not surprising, as I've not been sleeping before 3 am for more than two months, and I've been waking up after 12 pm everyday apart from Tuesday as I have a morning lecture at 9 am. Life has turned haywire. I know I should adjust back my time, but it's not the right time to do so. I promised myself that I will sleep by 12 am everyday once the report is submitted, and wake up by 10 am.

So, I'm back to Blogger after nearly a year! I thought I would prefer Tumblr as there's an App for my phone, and I thought it would be much easier. Yeah, it is easier definitely, and I hope there's an App for Blogger too, but the App doesn't make me blog more. I still prefer blogspot, for the better layout, and sometimes I would like to write more than just one or two sentences. And what's the use of App now? I spend literally all the time in front of my laptop when I'm not asleep or attending lectures. But who knows? I might still post something up to Tumblr every now and then.

So, how's my life been? I just want to say, I HAVE NO LIFE AT ALL! My mum was asking me to buy some stuff, and I told her I hadn't been shopping, even on weekends! YES, I haven't been shopping for nearly 2 months. So what's the big deal huh? (feeling disgustingly sour) And obviously she didn't believe me at first. Mum, I know you won't believe that your daughter is severely shopping deprived here in Manchester right? Me too. Sobs.

I'm currently doing my design project- designing a polylactic acid plant, and it's appallingly annoying! I know I know, I've been told many times that in order to be a chemical engineer, you have to learn to design processes and some equipments, and that's what you do as a chemical engineer. I seriously hate the life of being a chemical engineering STUDENT now. Yes, I said student, as I truly believe that being a chemical engineer is different from being a chemical engineering student. At least for the first few years after I've started working, I will not have to stay at home working on weekends, and have sleepless nights.

Actually, speaking of shopping, I don't know what I like about shopping nowadays. I believe I used to know, but after too much deprivation, I no longer like shopping. It's now just a way I complain about my boring life. 4 more weeks to Easter break! I can't wait, but prior to that, two more freaking report to submit.

So I guess I have been too stressed recently. I realised that my talent in sleeping is gone! The magical touch on the bed that makes me feel sleepy instantaneously is gone! I've been so not in a mood recently, especially after uni started.

Thanks to the volcano that has been causing so much problem for making the school and lecturers extending the deadlines of courseworks and postponing the seminar.

Since I am having a day off tomorrow (not skipping lecture ok??) I cooked 'mee sua' just now. Yummy! It reminded me of home. Last week, I suddenly had a crave for sarawak laksa. So dear and I decided to cook laksa and invited a number of non-sarawakian friends to eat laksa. I can't wait till exam finishes and I will be going back to Malaysia! Er... please volcano. Stop erupting and let me go home please?

So, what did I do during my easter holiday? First week, I was slacking. Second week, I was in Iceland. Third week, I was PARTY-ING!! My new friend Michelle from KL came to Manchester to visit her friend and stayed in Dalton Ellis. She's a great chef and cooked so much food for us. 皮蛋瘦肉粥，黄酒鸡汤，猪脚姜醋... Then we had fun and talked and played till 3 or 4 am everyday! Ya that was during the holiday and I wished holiday has not ended :( She's a really friendly and playful friend and I really enjoyed the moments with her in Manchester. Wait for me in KL ya Michelle!

Also, over the easter holiday after eating so much, I became fat.....

Uni starts again

Airspace closed!! But I am in Manchester! Luckily I went to Iceland between the two eruptions. Or else I would be stranded in Iceland and burn a big big hole in my pocket! I got to see the Eyjafjallajökull volcano before it erupted. It was still nicely covered with snow when I saw it. While in Iceland, I got to see another volcano that just erupted on 21st March. Thank God for blessing me to back in Manchester safely and, more importantly, before all the chaos that is happening right now.

So this is my first time blogging using my new MacBook. I am really satisfied with my MacBook. What happened to my old laptop? My poor Dell Vostro died. The nvidia graphics card killed it. I saw from the forum that a few other laptop models of other brands had the same problem too. So, I guess it's not Dell's fault. But sorry, I don't want my second laptop to be a microsoft one anymore!!!

I was hesitating whether to buy a mac or not at first. I thought I could survive with my blackberry. At least the email part is solved, blackberry is good with the email services, but who knows, the uni just loaded us with presentation, courseworks and poster before the holiday. So I had to get one. (I admit that I couldn't resist the lure of the little white MacBook when I saw it. I knew it wanted me to bring it home!!)

Anyway, uni is starting today! It's nearly 2 am now. Whenever I think about MLP, I just feel extremely annoyed. I am not exaggerating but I really do feel EXTREMELY annoyed. Tell me, how can you learn to be a leader by making poster? Don't tell me that we can get the 'inspirations' from the leaders that we are going to discuss about. Nonsense! What is the difference between reading their biographies and discussing about them? I don't think that would have a significant impact on anyone. I am so not convinced. I don't know for how many times I have complained about this MLP. I've told you, I am EXTREMELY annoyed!

Ah, going to bed now. Too annoyed.

Another week gone~

It happened again! I had lecture at 9 this morning and I woke up at 9! Luckily it was a three-hour lecture so I had the chance to sneak in during break. When I was going out of the lecture hall to throw some rubbish, the lecturer was standing at the stairs saying 'Hi good morning!' to me. Gosh! Obviously he knew that I had just sneaked in! I didn't have the time to take off my coat and scarf! Who would sit in the lecture hall with coat and... SCARF?? Haih, whatever. Thanks for your leniency Dr. Goddard!

So it's Friday again. Where had my whole week gone to? I finished my lab at 5 today and I just finished keying in 41*3*6 = 738 numbers in Excel. I spent the whole afternoon looking at 41 manometers. How boring life is?

So, another week gone. This means spring is near. At least the temperature has gone above 0 degree C. Daffodil shoots can be seen everywhere. I miss you so much my beloved tulips! I just love the feeling of walking on paths surrounded by lovely flowers. The sad fact is that it's still Manchester. So I am definitely going to hate the rain and strong wind during spring.

Another week gone. This means easter holiday is nearer and I am going to Iceland soon. Woo! I want to watch the whales and God, please let the weather be good. I want to bathe in the blue lagoon geothermal seawater! I want to see volcanoes. I want to see puffins! I want to eat super-fresh salmon!

Another week gone. This means summer is nearer and I will be going home soon! I can't wait till that day. I'm missing home so badly. However, before going home, there will be lots of reports and courseworks to submit, then revision and 2nd sem exam. Never mind, I will endure the hardship and I'll be going home!

But, what's the most important thing coming? Yeah, dear's birthday! What should I get him? A longchamp bag in return? Haha! What colour do you want dear?

Why do chemical engineers have to do MLP? The university must be thinking that we have too much free time. If the university think that it's such a good programme, then get all the engineering courses involved! Why only us??

In my e-poster group, I realise most of the members have less than 10 hours of lecture every week. For chemical engineering students, we have about 20 hours per week excluding the extra meeting time for lab work. When we were trying to arrange a time to meet up for the e-poster discussion, Tom and I would always say

'No, we have lecture. After 4pm please!'

'Then I guess no one here would have lectures at 9 right?'

'Very sorry but we do have lectures at 9am!!'

EXCUSE ME UNI! WE ARE NOT FREE AT ALL!!!

Counting hours..

I've been doing volunteering, involuntarily.

20 hours at least for 10 credits!
Hold on..
20 hours of volunteering + 1 e-poster + 12 online discussions + 24 hours of lecture = infinity hours for 10 credits

And I just got back from shoveling soil, after painting my tyre. I got my white coat stained with red paint, my white shoes covered in mud and my jeans stained with mud, my arms aching for pushing the wheelbarrow and my nap time gone!

Anyway, I enjoyed my volunteering in Minehead Resource Center where we made pancakes for the elderly. It was my first time making and tossing pancakes (with 2 failed products ) ! They were so glad to have us there, even though it's a day after pancake day.

Sleep is my only homework

I realise I can never get enough sleep. I can still feel sleepy even after 14 hours of sleep. It has nothing to do with my body clock starting another cycle or what. I only have to touch the bed and instantaneously feel sleepy, but seldom fall asleep immediately. Even though I love sleeping, I can never sleep while sitting, and that's why I hate long haul flights. I really dread flying to UK and back to Malaysia.

Lecture at 9 this morning but I woke up at 8.30am, and of course, I missed the lecture. I didn't hear the alarm ringing at all. Even if I slept earlier last night, I doubt it's going to make any difference. So who's to blame?? I really did not intend to skip the lecture!

So, it's 11th Feb today. Three more days to the day I love the most in a year. Not Valentine's Day but Chinese New Year. Seriously regretting coming to UK for this reason! Apart from a few red lanterns at Albert Square and in some chinese restaurants, there isn't any new year mood in Manchester. How sad!

8 reasons why I regret coming to UK:

1. Manchester's weather is depressing.

2. Trying on clothes is so much hassle with gloves, scarf, cardigan, coat....

3. It's poundsss that I am using.

4. No good Malaysian food. (like laksa, kueh chap, spicy crab...) but the dim sum is superb!

5. Water and food turn cold so easily and I hate eating cold food.

6. WATER TAPS! The cold one is really cold and the hot one is really hot. So, I hate washing dishes.

7. I don't get to celebrate chinese new year like how it is in Malaysia.

8. Mum's cooking... I only go back once a year.. for three months. But 9 months in UK!!!

But I've learnt that human beings are just human beings, no matter what race you are. Drop your superiority or inferiority complex.

I have no idea what happened to me today. From morning till evening I had always thought that today was Wednesday. But luckily somehow I brought the correct materials to lectures. Phew....

I think I am kind of lucky today. In the morning, I went out to the bus stop quite late but those people who went out way before I did were still at the bus stop. A tight packed bus came and stopped way ahead of the bus stop and I decided to try my luck and I managed to get on the bus!

After the SFS quiz at 11am, I went to the city centre. I consider today's shopping was my greatest achievement as dear and I only went for half an hour and we bought something! Normally I will just shop around for hours and eventually not get anything at all.

Thermodynamics lecture at 12pm. I am already in a holiday mood. But seriously this is the first time in thermodynamics lecture I could understand up to 90% and answer some of the genius Leo Lue's questions! Finally! I suppose everyone else, if not, most of the people could understand today's lecture too as this was the second time he talked about Raoult's law. Sigh, nothing for me to be proud of.

I know I have a report due next Monday which may count for 50% for the module and I haven't even started on the report. Not a single word!! I guess I would have to pull all-nighters this week.

Holiday is approaching... then EXAM! How have I been coping with the stress all these while?

Is time passing fast or slow for me? Sometimes I feel that it is going really fast as I have never started doing my tutorial since the first day of second year. I did some, of course, only during tutorial sessions. Actually, I think I have started telling myself that since my first year and my learning attitude has not changed still.

When does time pass slowly then? I am craving for holidays. Christmas holiday seems so far far away. I am looking forward to Easter holiday, then summer holiday. Then Christmas holiday again and so on. I am craving for a shopping binge, craving for travelling...

The weather in Manchester is getting really annoying and frustrating. It rains nearly every day and this year, it rained more heavily.When you complain about it, people will tell you 'Hey come on, what do you expect? It's freaking Manchester!'

Ya, what the heck. Manchester, so what? It's just another piece of land on earth! I had enough of washing my winter boots after walking on those soggy fallen autumn leaves and mud. Haih, how I wish I have a car here. Things will be so much easier.

But, instead of a car, I got myself a mushroom..........

If you are thinking of earning some extra money, I would seriously recommend you to sell umbrellas with two reasons:

First, it's Manchester!

(that rains a lot)

Second, it's Manchester!

(that rains a lot with strong winds flipping your umbrella over and often spoiling it)

It is getting colder and colder. Dusk creeps in at about 4pm. It is sometimes upsetting to see it dark outside as it is the usual time for me to go out to the city. Who would want to go out when the sky is dark and wait for the freaking bus 50 outside when it is freezing cold? Try shopping in a big fridge if you want. Wait! I should say, a big fridge that rains!

Oh well, I still love winter *embracing winter with love*

BBC Radio 4's Crossing Continents travelled to Malaysia to explore the divide among races and spoke to the new generation of Malaysians pushing for more equality after decades of a system of racial preferences.

I wonder why there is such a huge difference in the opinions from the above two Malays. As for me, race is not an issue at all in everything. I am really glad to have a few lovely good Malay friends in Manchester. They showed to me that we are always one big family, really. But why on earth is there still Malays that think like the guy above? However, the girl is just fabulous, she is open-minded, looks knowledgeable.. She's great, just like my fellow Malay friends in Manchester!

I'm lazy to think of a title

I always choose to blog at the times when I am busiest. Right now, I am doing my PRO/II report.

PRO/II...... yeah...... for Pro's.. (like me... that ends up burning midnight oil)

PRO/II is a programme we use to simulate chemical reactions, instead of carrying out the real experiments. I actually prefer real experiments, it's more fun, sometimes...only.... as most of the time, we only look at thermometers, pressure gauge, barometers, steam, condensate... and record, but not what is happening inside the vessel. So, there's actually no difference between doing PRO/II and doing experiments. PRO/II is of course better.. there are really really really simple schematic pictures to see such as reactors, valves, separation column, but you have to put different things together like puzzle to make it work, and to key in the correct data. Or else it will be ALL RED!! A big patch of eye-catching RED REACTORS, PIPES, WHATEVER YOU HAVE ON THE SCREEN! And the demonstrator will stare at your screen like your reactor is really really really really going to EXPLODE!!

Now, I am looking at the stripper. To be more precise, the stripping section. I am trying to understand how a stripper works.

Non-stop coughing and sneezing have made me so depressed these few days. Well, (luckily) I'm not the only one who is sick. *quite happy* Thousands of people (I suppose) in the university are ill. Seriously.. No kidding!! During lectures, sounds of coughing and sneezing from every corner are quite annoying.. So, I tried my best not to cough nor sneeze. Literally everywhere in the university you can hear people coughing or sneezing. Haha.

Anyway, I will still be going to Lake District this morning.Yea, I mean 'this morning'. I should be sleeping now as I have to wake up at 5.30am later or else I will miss the coach. But, my clothes are still in the tumble dryer, and I am still looking for a new look for my blog. Also, I think I am feeling somehow over-excited thinking about going to Lake District. So I can't sleep... Hehe.

That's student life.. isn't it? (well, I know many will not agree with me!)

I miss my family!! Dad, Mum, sisters and especially my nephew!!

I have not been sleeping earlier than 12am everyday since I arrived in Manchester. I feel so tired everyday but just fail to get over it everytime. I told myself many many times that I should really get a good rest and do my tutorials, but... I guess it's just because I am Flora...

Life has been great in Manchester. I have already been to two places since I got back to Manchester. Cheshire Oak for shopping trip and Pleasure Beach Blackpool. Blackpool is supposed to be a theme park outing but it just wasn't one for the non-thrill-seeker like me. So I ended up carrying bags and taking photos. I am proud to admit that I hate roller coaster rides and anything to do with speed and 'swinging your head up and down and left and right'. I really would not mind waiting and carrying bags and taking photos. It feels much better.

But, at least, I did one thing, the only thing I always do in theme parks, - going on the merry-go-round. I guess that is the only thing that fascinates me. The carousel was huge!! And the horses were moving faster than any other I have ever seen. I nearly retreated. Thanks to my dear for encouraging me and I really enjoyed it. What's wrong with me with rides??? (photos will be uploaded soon)

Straight after Blackpool trip, May June came to visit us. We missed each other too much and talked until midnight everyday and of course, I didn't get enough rest again. Anyway, it's great meeting up with her again. I really miss those days when she was still in Manchester, in Dalton Ellis Hall, with Jessica.

Dear and I are going to Liverpool tomorrow!! Going to stay over at May June's place and spend our weekend there. Life's great with good friends, forever.

A New Year, A New Semester

I'm back in Manchester! I'm loving the weather here, loving the university's internet speed, loving some of my lovely coursemates, loving the life going back to uni learning new things... Most importantly, I love the fact that I can see my dearest everyday, talk to him and go shopping together, especially after the three months of being apart.

The first day of uni was all right, apart from waiting for the bloody stagecoach bus that came so late which made me had to run all the way from the bus stop where I got off at to Renold Building. What made it much worse is that it was drizzling!

And so, I did not take the bus on the second day and third day. Instead I walked to the campus which took me about half an hour. While walking, I felt like those little kids anticipating to go to school. The chilly weather made it so much better to walk. The feeling is quite good actually and I enjoyed it. Imagine walking in Malaysia for half an hour! Also, I get to tone my legs!! I have to get rid of the fat I gained when I was back in Miri after eating so much Mum's cooking.

No lectures for the first two days, instead we attended the Career and Professional Development Programme where managers and staffs from several big companies such as BP, Solvay, Cargill and Sabic International came in to give us talks and trainings on how to write good CV's, covering letter, how to perform well during interviews, assessment centres and make good presentations. No doubt our university's career service has won the best uni career service award in the whole UK for five consecutive years! I have heard about how good they were before coming here, and they really are!

I went to the city centre and saw policewomen on horses. Even though it's not the first time I see police riding horses, I still felt excited! So the 'sakai' me took a few pictures of them. The horses were big!

Malaysia is joining F1 after BMW and Honda decided to pull out. Can we compete with Ferrari and Renault?

I think it's a bad idea. First off, I think it's a waste of money. We have millions to spend on an F1 car, why not use it to develp better QC for our national cars? Lets focus on our national cars first, and then maybe we can do something with the F1 car. Besides, aren't we joining to lose?

Malaysia needs to be prudent in spending and be more responsible if they want to achieve the 1 Malaysia plan. How do they do that in wasting millions in motor racing? Billions of ringgits are wasted on egoistic show-offs like space travels, unnecessary government expenditures and now f1 motor racing. Why don’t they use the money to subsidize fuel, develop slum areas, reduce poverty, provide better medical assistance, upgrade the police agencies and other country development programs instead of wasting tax-payers money on frivolous personal glory.
The economy is struggling, the poverty level is still very high, the petrol crisis is still not resolved....food prices are soaring, and Malaysia spends millions on motor racing while others are pulling out and cutting down.

When you realise

There is a saying that you will truly realise your parents' hell-bent sacrifice and appreciate them only when you become a parent yourself. How true that is. When my sister was about to step into the airport going back to KL, she turned around and tears rolled down. Never had I thought of how parents feel when they are to be separated from their children, even when I left for Manchester last year. I think I will only genuinely feel it when I am a parent in the future.

Went to Seahorse Bistro with zhuzhu and wei ting last Thurs. The garlic lamb chop just tasted horrible. Okay, it wasn't that awful, it was still edible but it was just not delicious at all. Wei hong was supposed to join us but he couldn't make it as he saw a road accident on the way back from Bintulu. A drizzle made us leave the place early and went to Bintang Megamall to meet up with wei hong for movie. Damn, there were so many stray cats at Seahorse! I gave the poor critters my chips but they were just so choosy and refused to eat. They were lucky to have my baked beans for dinner as I have always hated cats.

I particularly love the short clip about clouds before 'Up'. It is better and more inspirational than 'Up' even though it's so short. 'Up' was a bit disappointing. I would not say it is not a good one, but it is just not that good. The other three said so too. We were forced to fill in the 'interview form' by wei ting before leaving about theme parks. All I had in mind was Alton Towers and Disneyland Paris. They are not the best in the world but so far the best I have visited.

Dear, can we go to the Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando, please?

嗯，没错啦。我们当然要成长。但同时，我又有另外的感想。

从婴孩到小孩子，再到少年，青年，父老，尤其是家里现在多了个小baby，我觉得，做婴孩有什么不好呢？成长是不得已的呀。

我觉得，做baby好处可真多呢！
1.你多么调皮，没有人会骂你。
2. 生气或不爽时，大人会哄你。
3. 开心时，有人会陪你玩。
4. 肚子饿时，只要哭一下，就有奶喝。
5. 累的时候就有得睡觉，睡多久都没人骂，也没有人叫你起床。
6. 时常有人称赞，有人疼。
7. 不用做家务。
8. 不用上课，做工，没有压力，没有感受到世界的残酷。

大人时时刻刻照顾你，总之，就是全世界都围绕着你忙，有什么不好的呀？

唯一不好的是，别人抱你去哪里，你就去哪里，没得选择。

长大后，这些好处都已不再。什么都得靠自己。从托儿所，到幼稚园，小学，中学，大学，开始工作，结婚，生孩子，还是工作，一做至少三十年，退休，看孙。。考试及工作的压力越来越大，把你压得喘不过气来，生活越来越忙，人越变越老...，最后两脚一伸， bye bye 了。有什么好？

所以我说，成长是不得已的！

Eggs.. This reminds me of the three kinds of eggs being served in the dining hall every day when I was in Manchester - poached egg, fried egg and scrambled egg. Two eggs a day is a must for me. Hehe. I wonder how many chicks I have sacrificed. Eggs for me are to be eaten- in cakes, in fried bitter gourd, instant noodles, porridge.. Can't think of any other use for eggs. Oh ya.. To produce more chickens, to throw at some politicians...

I received an email and apparently eggs are not be eaten only. Eggs are ART!

Sometimes I wish that I am more artistic and imaginative, instead of being so pragmatic and philosophical. I always tell myself and others that I am a 'science person'. I got A for my Art in Junior 3, and it was purely fluke. Mind you, it was sketching, NOT IMAGINATIVE drawing. However, I do know how to appreciate art, really... Just like how I appreciate my dear's drawings and cards.

這故事，

彰顯人類選擇的自我層次 ，

同一件不幸事你可以怨天尤人，

痛罵社會，甚至自責無窮，

但事情卻不因這些而改變，

這一切只改變了你和日後的生活，

負著疤痕的活下去。

反之，

放下怨恨和懼怕，

放下過去，勇敢的活下去，

事情的境況原來並不如想像中壞，

這就是作者所說的

也就是我們所說的由人轉境，

Today, a friend of mine asked me when I would turn 20. She said, 'Damn! I can't imagine myself being an adult! I am going to be old!!' Then I went to search the internet for what the age range of a teenager is. Most of the answers are that 19 is the last year of teens. The TEEN in teenagers refers to the age range of thirTEEN to nineTEEN.

Hmmm... I am not going to be a teenager anymore?? Oh well, it doesn't matter to me at all.

Then I found this. 'A 20-year-old model photographed as if she were 10, 20 30, 40, 50 and 60.'

My blog has been dead for two weeks since I am back in Miri. All the blames go to the slow internet connection. Well, not all. I have been busy since I got back. But SERIOUSLY, I can stand the internet connection no more! It takes ages for me to load a page or it never completes loading and was so problematic when I was video calling. Streamyx is like a snail, TMnet is like an amoeba swimming slowly in a pool of stagnant water.

I'm glad that I got back before the H1N1 worsens. Or else I would have to be home quarantined for 7 days. The measures taken to prevent the outspread of swine flu was not enough. We were required to fill a form during the flight from Amsterdam to KL. No screening at all although there were health officers stationed at the airport. Back in Miri airport, I was given hand sanitiser. The health officers asked if I had been to those affected countries and checked my body temperature. And I PASSED the screening!! But I was given a yellow card, in case I had any listed symptoms of H1N1 infection, then I had to go to the doctor. Thank God I am still safe now.

My dear came back from KL last Tuesday and went back on Sunday. Such a short trip. A Mirian but went back to KL. We went around visiting relatives and friends everyday, being treated dinners and lunches by relatives. This is the first time my dear is away from me for such a long time. We were both from Miri but since his family moved to KL, he has to stay in KL for this summer holiday. We went to study in Manchester together, have been seeing each other everyday for nine whole months. Miss you dear~ I am going to KL to see you soon~ and shop, of course! Wait for me okay?

I have been busy baby sitting my nephew since I got back. He's very michievous, very very mischievous. He can never stop moving his hands and legs when he is drinking milk, and likes to put his two fingers in his mouth when he is drinking, sometimes pushing the milk bottle out then cries. He loves kicking whenever someone sits near his legs, sometimes raising his legs up high so that he can reach to kick the person. But he is just that lovable and adorable. The first next generation in my family. Whenever I scold him, he smiles back at me.

I was hoping to join the parade to Old Trafford on Thursday, to see the 'red sea'. What a disappointment. 2-0 was not what I was expecting, a bit embarrassing. Before the Champions League final, I heard that many will come to Manchester to celebrate if Manchester United won. So I guess I am not the only one who was disappointed.

The headlines in newpapers were 'Manchester United's dream had a Messi End' and 'A Messi Ending'. All about Lionel Messi. Undeniably, he's a great footballer. Christiano Ronaldo was not performing at all that day. Even Sir Alex Ferguson admitted that Barcelona was the better side that night. What a distressing scene it was when the Manchester United team went up the podium to receive their medals, especially when the team members and the supporters showed the face of despair.

Anyway, it's good enough to be able to get to the final.

Being in Manchester, I can always feel the mood and excitement when Manchester United is going to play in any match. On the streets, there will always be people wearing the RED RED jersey whenever there is a match. I even saw people wearing the red jersey to EXAM!

Which team do I support? Manchester United of course! Because I am in Manchester, and they are good players! (but I don't know much about football).

1st Year Design Project

Finally the design project had come to an end. From last Tuesday to this Thursday, from 9am to 5pm everyday apart from Wednesday and Friday, and a quiz on Friday required much brainwork and we all felt exhausted at the end of the day.

We were required to design and build a plant to produce benzoic acid. I was in a huge group with 15 people initially. Then 3 were told to join other groups as 12 people was the maximum. New worksheets given everyday, papers started piling up on the desks, people began to complain, tired faces started to appear....

We had to design reactors, cooler condenser, condenser, reboiler, cooler, solidification drum, decanter, reflux drum. From mass balance to energy balance, from the dimensions to the cost of every single item, to the pipes, pumps, cost of building the plant, facilities, contractor fee, security, wage.............................. We were all so astonished to see even one reactor would cost 170000 pounds.

Finally, it's done. And the break even point is between 9 to 10 years.. We would be 'seriously in debt' for the first 4 years. They told us that was normal.

Spring In Dalton Ellis

Dalton Ellis hall is the the uni's accommodation hall where I live. It is the hall with the best scenery ever in the whole Manchester.

On the way walking to my block, you can see flowers of all sorts of colour blooming: yellow, pink, purple, blue.. Accompanied by the chirping sound and the squirrels jumping from one tree to another, looking at you.. haha..

Spring is lovely, delightful and beautiful. I love to see the flowers blooming.. Big Big tulips everywhere..

Chemical Engineering Challenge 2009

11 March 2009, the three future chemical engineers, Candy, Wen Zhe and I took part in the Chemical Engineering Challenge 2009. The challenge is to use the power of mentos and coke to lift a weight. The team with the greatest height will win. How?

Design yourself.

So, we wasted more than 20 rolls of mentos and 10 bottles of diet coke for our experiments. The erupting power of the coke and mentos was far beyond our expectations. One mentos (only) and 2 litres of coke... the eruption was so instantaneous. Anyway, it was fun. We had ourselves soaked in coke, and even doing experiments outside at 2am. Haha.

We scrapped so many ideas.. Calculation part was frustrating. Thanks to my dear the future mechanical engineer's help.

一瞬间三月来到了。Manchester 的天气还是那么的无情，不是刮大风，就是下细雨，不然就天阴阴的。刚才才下了一场冰雹雨。但偶尔那慵懒的太阳呢，还是出来显威风一下，只是一下罢了。怎么英国的春天是那样的？

春天的到来，草地上开始长出了花草，实在是太美丽了。黄色的水仙花，紫色的番红花，白色的某某花，一朵朵的蘑菇。。。哈哈。这就是春天。我在期待着我 Hall 里的那棵梅花树快快开花。。我就是喜欢春天的花儿、夏天的温暖、秋天的枫叶、冬天的雪堆。一切都很美。

上帝的创造天衣无缝，在感叹这个世界的虚空时，上帝在我们身边置放了这么多美好的东西。春天下雨时，我常想起一首歌--主赐福如春雨。这个世界因为有上帝和他的创造才让我觉得这个世界是美好的。

my beloved cuzzies in Manchester

昨天晚餐吃云吞面！！！好久好久没看见云吞面了。一碗云吞面大概是9英镑。但昨晚，我们几个朋友‘齐心合力’来包云吞。六个人吃了大概120粒云吞，加上面，太desperate了。哈哈。包的过程很好玩，有枕头状的（明鸿的）、有红包袋型的（dear的）、有元宝状的（我和Jean的）。。英国的云吞皮比较小，且厚，黄黄的，煮了像水饺较多。馅料有肉、香菇及鲜虾。吃得好饱，但我还要再吃多几次！！

还有三个月我就回美里啦！时间过得好快。不知道美里现在是什么样子了，最期待是看到我的家人、我的外甥、还有回到教会！！

My first semester result was out. I was so relieved and happy to get such result, considering no more than 6 hours of revision for each subject, and all done the day before exam. Haha. I am satisfied. Of course, I got to work harder for the second semester. I will... I must!

February was fabulous to me. Finally I found a shoulder bag in UK. Well, it can be either a sling or shoulder bag. Or else I would have to use my poor white bag for the rest of my first year in UK. And it is a present from my dear! Thanks so much. Also, I've gotten myself a new coat. Both bag and coat are from Esprit. And on top of all, my leather boots --Valentine's Day present from my dear!! I have been looking around for a nice pair of boots, comfortable and presentable. I love them all!!

I was the one who actually needed a coat and found one in Esprit, but Min Hong and Bryan both got a coat in Esprit too, to wear in Milan and Venice. Haha.

I really dislike people for taking my books or ransacking my bag. It's such an ill-mannered doing. I mean, if you want to borrow my book to look at it (or to look at how much I got, or how I did, or my answers) please just ask for permission. I will give it to you willingly. If I am not there, please just wait. I hope people will respect others like how they want to be respected. Anyway, I am not referring to anyone in particular.

It was so beautiful in Disneyland.. Everywhere was covered by snow.. Lakes were frozen.. of course.. my toes were 'frozen' too. The snow there wasn't the same as those in Manchester. It's so fluffy and loose. Somehow, the snow in Manchester is much like clusters.. Haha

First Day of Semester 2 in Manchester

It snowed in the whole UK since last night! Everywhere was white. When I woke up this morning, I was so surprised to see the 'white piece of land' in front of my block, and it was still snowing. Oooo... first day of sem 2 and it was white. Snow is so beautiful, but it can be pretty annoying when it melts.

My seniors had been telling me that it rarely snows in Manchester, but it has already snowed for many times since December, and the snow stayed!! Actually it started yesterday when I went to Chinatown to see the celebration and Lion Dance. Haha. It snowed when I went to school. Scenery was just beautiful..... so beautiful.... Many were outside playing snowball fight. We played on the way walking to The University Place for another lecture. One word, beautiful!!
